Default worst tomato you have ever grown

I bought a packet of placero tomato seeds a few years ago and was super excited to plant them based on the description on Baker Creek's website. I think it was supposed to be sweet with good flavor and had more vitamins than a regular tomato. What I got was really small, thick skinned, bitter tasting tomatoes that I could not swallow. I planted out 3 or 4 plants in my limited space. I even kept two around until the end of the season thinking things might change but of course it didn't.

What's the worst tomato you have ever grown?

In a trade, I received some seeds of a plum shaped cherry variety which bore the name "Hawkins". To make a long "spitting" story short, the taste was the same no matter when you picked it. From dead green to almost too ripe, there was no difference in the taste. For all the work I had done with it, and for the disappointment, I set the plant, the remaining fruit, and all the remaining seeds on a fence post and shot it with my 20 guage for a while. Then I put it all into a large paper bag and burned the remains.

Very tart tomatoes can sometimes be made edible by adding a touch of sugar. In all my years of growing tomatoes, this was the one and only exception.

I can't name just one. There have been so many terrible tomatoes over the years that to pick out just one would be unfair. Some with skin like leather, some with absolutely no taste, some with a taste that would make me gag, some hard as baseballs, some that refused to ripen and of course some that just made so few fruits they weren't worth the effort.

To me worst tomato is the one that does not fruit or just a few. Call it a mule. I have had quite a few of them. ARBUZNYI , DRUZBA, ROMA GRANDE , BIG BEEF (op), NEW BIG DWARF, DANIEL BURSEN. I should admit that some of those instances was due to bad season.
I can use any tomato, if not as freshly sliced , in cooking and making sauce with. In fact I consume more tomatoes as cooked than raw. I use lots of herbs and spices, hot pepper, garlic, onion, oregano, basil, red bell peppers ...

I ate my 1st Daniel Burson the other night and it was a spitter. It looks awesome and I thought it would taste good but NOT.

That's hard to believe, mine were so excellent that I grew them 3 years in a row. Just bumped to try more new stuff. Did Patti give you your seeds? I know hers are good.

I was surprised too from all the reviews. I did get them from Patti and will grow them again but in soil. I still have more on the plant. I'm growing them in dutch buckets.

Azoychka & Florida 91 have been the worst tasting. In regard to Florida 91, I could not believe how such healthy plants which produced such pretty fruit could taste so bland. Just goes to show looks can be deceiving.
