Default What is "GW"?

Hello.

Sorry to bother you with this, but I have read multiple posts with references to "GW". I know it is a forum (perhaps similar to this one?). I have Googled GW, and doubt you are all talking about "Guild Wars" or "Grey Wolf" market analysis.

So save me from losing sleep at night, please!

Humbly yours,

Michael in <today> the very sunny Willamette Valley in Oregon.

I believe GW refers to GardenWeb. You can find it at www.gardenweb.com There is a tomato forum there as well as many other garden subjects you can check out. Perhaps you have already been there?

Hello, Tiffanie.

Thank you so much for the link. I am quite sure I've never been there before.

That's a lovely hole in the ground-just imagine the size of the turnip that could grow in it!

This forum was created because the Tomato forum at GardenWeb didn't really suit our needs anymore. Books could be written about it. Lots of the advice given there anymore is bad advice.

I do check out GW periodically, especially the immensely helpful Fruit forum, specifically the posts by Don Yellman.

Brent Walston (Bonsai Guru) ref. me to Garden Web to the BONSAI section a few years ago - I've thanked him because I got a lot of great advice from those threads ~

Eventually I meandered my way over to the Tomato forum -
Then in the Conversation area there was a thread that was linked to here ~ Sometimes I go back just to see whats what ~

My biggest beef was I got sick of the "Kraft Maccaroni & Cheese ads" ~ lol

That’s funny but as we all know, to do like GW is to be like GW, so, ‘as we aren’t, we rise above their totalitarian ways to a place better than the big BS bushiness they have turned in to.

It is still a great place for things other than tomatoes.

Michael- I had fun choosing my avatar. We have hard clay in our yard and have to dig extra big holes to plant everything . I feel like every week I am digging another big hole! That hole now has an apple tree in it. I gave up digging for the vegetables and put in raised beds. I loved your turnip comment !

Tomatoville is better than GW on many levels, but I still visit the GW harvest forum every now and then to get great recipes. I also appreciate that Carolyn spends a lot of time answering the same questions over and over and over on the tomato forum.... I have learned a lot about tomatoes just from reading her posts while "lurking" on GW.

I agree though, the ads are really obnoxious . Once they started animating things, I stopped going except when I need to have a question answered.

Sorry if I offended anybody providing that link. I had no idea I stepped into a hornet's nest. I guess I can use the "I'm new to TV" excuse.

No need to be ashamed. The restrictions on this forum are against posting political or religion motivated comments. Otherwise, several of us still go to gardenweb on occasion.

I'm just like the rest of the people who have seen the "south beach diet" in your face ad one time too many. That is the big reason why I don't like GW.

Tiffanie, relax, no one will come to break your kneecaps. GW often reminded me of junior high--that kind of level of behavior. Probably 90% of the people who post here came from there, and many go back from time to time to read. Some got kicked off.

Tomatoville is run way, way better. It's a cool place.

I still visit GW once in a while but I rarely post. Given that it's been around for so long, it can be quite a handy resource. There are a lot of helpful threads buried in there (from long ago.) I don't often comment in current threads at the tomato forum though because it seems like many of the them disintegrate into sniping and/or character bashing very quickly. And the ads at GW make my firewall very cranky indeed...sigh.

As other folks have already said, you have nothing to be ashamed of, whatsoever.

Although GardenWeb's new owners (the Village Idiots aka IVillage) have banned me, as well as any reference, link or mention of Tomatoville®, I do not feel threatened or become upset by anyone mentioning them here.

To be honest, I even enjoy rattling their cage on occasion, as anyone here will tell you.

I like to think of GardenWeb's tomato forum as a public high school, whereas Tomatoville® is more like an Ivy League university...without the exorbitant tuition bills.

No need to appologize Tiffanie. GW has some obnoxious policies that have rubbed people raw since it was sold to IVillage. I was lucky to have had an active registration when it was sold, so I've never had the ad problems everyone else has seen.
Regardless, there's still some good information to be found there and you shouldn't fret about answering the question.
