Guildo Pietroboni
Any thoughts on this variety? Is it worth a space in the garden, before I go requesting seed in the Wanted Forum?

I have seeds from Geza and Tatiana both from 2015 as well as my own that I saved that year.

"The case is solv-ed."
Inspector Clouseau There were a couple of misspellings both in the letter and the old thread, above. Neil is even going to call Ferp again, to triple check. But, I don't believe the obituary got it wrong. (but then again, I've seen family death certificates with complete name errors, let alone spelling errors) Now, is there any way to edit the thread title to correct the spelling? |

There was discussion a few years ago on the Gildo/Guido issue. Give Amideutch a shout. I know he grew it and was part of the name conversation. No specifics, but my memory tells me the discussions about it were very positive.

Tell me more about the name conversation. Can you direct me to a webpage? The reason I ask, is because I have a letter in front of me with the history of this tomato. Unless this letter writer made a spelling or typing error, or a friend of Mr. Pietroboni's son made a spelling error when giving the seed and history to this letter writer, the name would be Guildo, and neither Gildo nor Guido. Hopefully we can clear this up, if it needs to be cleared up. |

Well, after inserting different spellings into a search, I found a thread...
http://www.tomatoville.com/showthread.php?t=10410 The last post leads me to believe, but not completely conclude, the name is Guildo. And after reading about the tomato, G. Pietroboni , I'm looking for seeds. Last edited by Tormato; April 3, 2019 at 05:09 PM. |

They had me at "these seeds came for a three pounde oxheart tomato but the tomato resembled a paste tomato. they were originally brought back from italy..."
If you find seeds and grow them, please put me at the top of the list for a couple of seeds! |

I had to google the alternate name to find pictures, but I thought the same thing as well as far as first impressions. The lateral cut looked like a beef steak. The whole tomato looked like an oxheart. The radial cut down the middle made it look like a paste......

Here's the post I found:
Guildo Pietroboni (Post #25) Just got off the phone with Ferp. He says that this tomato is approx. 3 lbs and a red Oxheart. An amazing tomato. When he said that the tomato was like a paste tomato he didn't mean that it grew out differently from what was expected, he meant that it was very meaty and good for making sauce. It originated with Guildo Petriboni who is deceased and Guildo brought it from Italy. I'm growing this one next year for sure. Neil G. (Canada) retiree is offline |
