Default Greenies and other current tomato stuff

These are highlights of what I've got from both greenhouses during the last week.

1 (2+3). Upper row: Mazarini, Boloto, Malakhitovaya Shkatulka, Orange Russian 117, Chyornyi Tarasenko (Black Tarasenko)
Middle row: Sevryuga, Orlinoe Serdtse (Eagle's Heart), Volov'e Serdtse (Oxheart), Budyonovka, Oziris (2 pcs)
Third row: Stick (2 pcs), Utyonok (Little Duck) (2 pcs), Reisetomato, Krupnaya Slivka, Uralskiy Ranniy (Early from Ural) and Chyornyi Mavr (Black Mavr).

4. Boloto (left) + Malakhitovaya Shkatulka (right)
Boloto has got a much sweeter flavor, but Malakhotivaya Shkatulka has at least some acid for my buds

5,6,7,8,9 - Boloto. I've picked a real monster from one of my 2 Boloto compact plants (about 0.8-1 m in height).

10 - Orange Russian 117. Some very first fruits have oblate shape. Heart shaped fruits follow only from the third cluster! The flavor is toooooo sweet for me. Like a peach-jelly or something like that

Stick is very low in production and produces a very tiny fruits on a 1 m high plants. It has got me red with a barely seen orange/yellow stripes. The taste is very common for such a novelty!

Rena, it really depends on how much sun Boloto fruit has got. As you can see I have pictures of 2 Boloto fruits from two plants located in different places with not the same amount of sunlight. So the one plant which is located in half-shadow broght me that smaller and more dark-green fruit. The other on the sunny place produced this huge beefsteak of more traditional green type with a bit of yellow when fully ripe.
The flavor of both fruits were identical, but it is not what I usually tasted from green when ripe tomatoes I've tried before. The flavor is different but still sweet.

By the way, Boloto means "Bog" in Russian. we have got a lot of bogs here in Belarus. And they has usually dark-green waters And Bog means "God" in Russian

Oziris is a newely introduced Russian black variety. I've bought seeds last autumn in Moscow from the Russian seed company Sedek.

Flavor is a classic sweet (but without smoky notes). Production is also very good. Clusters are short and located after 1-2 upper leafs. Will definately grow it next year

I want to grow a couple different of Black varieties next year:
Black Krim
Black from Tula
Black Prince
Nyagous
Paul Robeson
and now maybe "Oziris".

Which two would you recommend out of that list? Does Sedek have a website to order seeds? Are Oziris a hybrid?

Thanks,

Dean

Dean, Sedek has a website only in Russian 'cause they are selling seeds only in CIS either by themselves (their shops) via their distributors. Unfortunately there are still almost no seed companies which would like to serve foreign gardeners' seed orders... Seeds of Oziris will be available from me in autumn There are also some people here who is growing Oziris this summer and you can alternatively have a seed trade with one of them Oziris is OP as all other vegetable varieties I'm offering.

A for your choice of blacks for the next season I need to know your criterions of your preferences By the way, I have another Russian black varieties which are not in your list, but they are great for me...

Coming on with "green" tomatoes. Presenting an Izumrudnoe Yabloko (Emerald Apple) tomato. Last time it was 2000 or 2001 when I grew it and re-growing it in 2007.

I've started it a bit later than other seedlings for my greenhouses. A compact indeterminate plant with regular foliage (usually 1-1.5 m tall). Bears emerald-green flattend globes 120-300 g fruits (3-7 fruits in a cluster). A very well-balanced sweet-acid flavor and quite juicy fruits. A Russian commercial OP midseason variety.

The flavor of IY is more closer to Green Giant than with my other Russian greenies. You can compare GG and IZ on the 3rd picture. GG has much brighter green color than IY.

Gonna to list Izumrudnoe Yabloko (Emerald Apple) in SSE Yearbook 2008. Seeds will be available from October or so...

P.S. Like Green Giant flavor very much as well.

Andrey -- Your tomatoes are beautiful. How much longer will your season last? Here in Alaska, it's just about over. Daytime temperatures might get into the 60's if it's nice. Frost can come any time, but probably not for a couple more weeks.

Thanks, Sherry!

If we are able to avoid main problem with deseases like the Late Blight we are going on with the harvest until the end of September (the first frost date), but only indoor (in greenhouses). Now it's + 15 +18 C (day) and +5 +8 C (night). All the greenhouse doors are closed during the whole day and at night. There is approx. 30% of the harvest to pick up from upper clusters...
The same goes for peppers...
But I've heard there will be a quite warm autumn here so I'll try to let my tomatoes bear more fruits even in October if possible
