I'd like to thank the following people...
Suze & Tylenol Rob who sent me seeds for Haley's Purple Comet, I'd have to do some digging to see whose seeds I grew.
Brad, the founder of Haley's Purple Comet. Sakata or whoever it was that invented Sungold. MikeInCypress who originally sent me seeds of what I'm currently calling "Cherokee Green Grape." Not to be confused with Green Grape. Cherokee Green Grape is believed to be a cross of Cherokee Green and Isis Candy. My new buddy Hilde for talking me into going to the Fireside Inn 1st Annual Tomato Tastefest in East Concord NY at the last minute (today.) She also met me there and took some pics, maybe she will post some here. (not of me though!) She also paid the entrance fee for Grub's Mystery Green. My buddy Grub and his Grub's Mystery Green, a fine tomato. My buddy Bill in NM (Spudleaf Willie), who sent me GMG seeds this year, and many, many others. Marcia Ritchie, one of the persons hosting the event, along with Patty (Patti?) Sepull, owner of the Fireside Inn. They put on a nice little show in a beautiful setting about 45 minutes south of Buffalo. I have invited both to the Buffalo-Niagara 2007 tastefest/party, September 8th. They will bring tomatoes or a dish... or both. All the celebrity chefs/judges who gave fair unbiased opinions; none knew who brought which tomatoes, and none of the grower's names were on the label cards. Sally Cunningham, who jawed with me for twenty-thirty minutes in private about companion planting, growing corn in 10 inches of compost on a blacktop driveway , and what became of Cornell Cooperative Extension Service. And everybody on the tomato forums that make growing heirloom tomatoes fun. David, buddy, I hope Summer grows up looking more like her mother than you. Unfortunately, GMG did not win its class... it got beat out by a "Purple Cherokee" but the winner DID say that she thought GMG was great, thought it was better than her Cherokee Purple, (I think she said the best tomato there) and wants to grow it... I will hook her up, that's the least I can do! (even though you renegged on that girlfriend swap a couple years ago, remember? the one in the pic with the bikini that even fishes for mine and a boatride over Niagara Falls?) I also invited her here (told her to join us at www.tomatoville.com, hope she remembers; I gave her a flyer with my phone & e-mail & will remind her again if I hear from her.) Haley's Purple Comet won its cherry class. Sungold won its Hybrid cherry class. Cherokee Green Grape won its grape class. I will pay Hilde the $7 back for the GMG entry or take her to Swiss Chalet for lunch or dinner to talk tomatoes. This offer expires on Monday, August 27, 2007. Good for 20% off dinner for two. Please bring ID so we know it's you. One certificate per table. One time use only. Any alterations to this certificate make it null and void. Only valid at participating US locations. Mark |

Woohoo!!!! That is great! The suspense was killing me, since I had to leave before the results were clear!
We are going to the Swiss Chalet? Cool, I would love to go! Too bad the GMG didn't win, but better luck next year. Haley's purple comet is so good, I almost can't believe how good it is. I have to grow it next year. I did take a few pictures, and I think I absolutely have to post one of Mark. Or what do you guys think? Wanna see a picture of Mark? Hilde |
