Tomatoes on Martha Stewart Living

I am recording the show on Martha Stewart Living featuring Amy Goldman.

Amy emailed me admitting that she is going to show some of my tomato creations (babies) on the show. I don't know how she will show them; either by photo or in the flesh!

Friday: Handbag day; handbag fashion show; heirloom fruit and vegetable expert Amy Goldman; fried green tomatoes. This episode of Martha Stewart airs Sept 14, 2007

Here on the west coast I have NBC set to record at 2 PM and again at 11 PM pm on the Canadian station. Amy Goldman joins Martha in the kitchen to make fried green tomatoes on Martha (syndicated, check your local listings).

I hope she shows some tomato varieties of mine that I'll recognize. Amy and I have been emailing each other most of the summer and talking on the phone about her new book on tomatoes and tomatoes in general.

If you have ever seen her books on melons, pumpkins and squash, you will get the idea of how great the pictures will be in her book about Home Grown Tomatoes.

I hope many of you can catch this show for what it worth.

Thank you for posting this, Tom!

I have Amy's melon book and I love it. I have been looking for the Charentais melon in stores and farmer's markets ever since, but nobody has them, so I still haven't tasted that variety. Maybe I just have to give up and get seeds hehehe.

I have set the DVR to record the show, I usually never watch Martha Stewart.

I've got it taping now. They're starting with the handbags....wow...that's money to burn....$140,000US for a handbag???? top of the line Hermes Birkin bag. Ouch. I think if I had that money I'd be buying land for growing heirlooms....not bags...and that comes from a "recovering bag and shoe-aholic"....lol

BTW....she's got the toms on a platter in front of her...front and centre while she's been talking about the handbags.

I think that people who buy USD140K handbags have USD140 MILLION. If you had that kind of money, THEN would you consider buying that handbag?

I just saw it. Wow, that was a lot of tomato plants. Imagine planting 500 varieties of tomatoes! I think it was said that she had a 1 acre tomato patch.

It was great to watch!

I was just about drooling over having that much space to plant that many plants. And the size of some of those maters!!!! Holy tomato!

My cousin back in Kansas called yesterday and said her mother was watching Martha Stewart Living and heard my name mentioned as the breeder of the Brown Derby by Amy Goldman. She must have been a bit excited. My aunt called a whole bunch of relatives to tell them to watch. I guess they thought it was a big deal. I was traveling in Vancouver, B.C. at the time, so I hadn't watched the program yet.

My Aunt Miriam married my Uncle Lester years ago, so she knew me throughout the years I was growing up and breeding plants of all types. She was one of my most unquestioning fans for my potato and tomato varieties. I was glad she got to hear me get credit on the TV for my tomato work.

I had the program recorded with closed captioning so it was fun to see and hear my name.

The Brown Derby is but one of a bunch of selections I released as part of my Brown Derby Mix. The one Amy was showing on TV was the hollow version. Amy cut a Brown Derby open to show the pepper type interior.

It's on my DVR. Does anyone know if there is a way to connect a computer to the DVR to burn a DVD?
