Need a new water delivery method this summer.....I'm thinking of this....
So here is a shot of my garden last year.....
I'm thinking of making a watering system for it. My idea was to use 1/2" or 1" PVC to create a grid of sorts buried as deep as I can. I figured I'd either create different branches and control water flow from hose to each with ball valves, or just have one continuous length of pipe cover the whole garden. I could drill varying size hole to try and even out distribution of water. Or I could have all the holes the same size and not try and push the water out of the pipe just let it drain out slow like. Thoughts? I have a lot of 4" black gutter pipe but that would be more difficult to bury and would definitely be a fill it up with water and then it drains out system... On another note I have a sump pump in the basement. There is always water in the bottom of the sump slightly below the float. I'm thinking about sticking a smaller pump in there to see how much water there is and use it on the garden this summer...... |

I'd go for the slow drain/drip option.

Several thoughts, if I understand you correctly:
1. Roots and dirt will clot up the holes in no time. 2. There is no way to make sure that coverage will be even. 3. It will be very dificult to tell if you have enough water because the top of the soil will always be dry. dcarch

Considering pressure system b/c I could turn it on and drill holes to get even coverage prior to burying it..... I can get a decent estimate of gallons used, but still wouldn't know what is enough until plants either rot or die LOL.... |
