Damping off question....HELP!
I'm having a bit of tough luck with my Momotaro starts. The soil is clearly too wet, so some of the seedlings are damping off. I'm hoping to save the remaining seedlings.
If I pot them up to 4" pots now (there are no true leaves yet), can I avoid the dreaded damping off, or is it already too late? I don't have pix handy. The seedlings in question appear healthy enough, but I'm afraid they'll succumb later today or tomorrow if I do nothing. My other 4 varieties are doing fine.......so far...... Michael

Michael,
I had the same problem a month ago with a couple of seedlings going "horizontal", in a matter of a few hours. Had my soil way too wet, was the diagnosis from Carolyn and others here. I quickly transplanted them into dry soil in 4" containers immediately and had no further ones "take a dirt nap". Ray |

Thanks, Ray.
I'm potting 'em up now. Fingers are crossed. Michael

The 10/1 water/hydrogen_peroxide treatment seems to
work (mentioned by Suze in a thread awhile back, with approximate proportions from Worth in another thread). I had newly emerged seedlings that were too wet for a few weeks, wet enough for cotyledons to shrivel up and fall off before true leaves emerged, and for the tips of a few first true leaves to die (that was my clue what the problem was). I had initially watered them with water with 10% hydrogen peroxide (from a standard drug store bottle, whatever that concentration is) mixed in, and I misted them with that until the seedlings emerged. They have recovered slowly from being in seed starting media too wet for too long, but none have damped-off.
