Default Now that's a Radish !!

Salad Rose. Never grew this one before but I'm really impressed. Actually, it my first 'tap root' style radish. Nice and crisp with a classic radish taste. Just takes a little longer but it's worth it. Easy to slice and prepare. They'll be back in the fall for sure.

I'll tell ya, these things are great if your a Radish fan. Five times the Radish in one root. They can get bigger than the ones in the picture as you probably know, but they tend to get a little dry. The size in the pic is just right. Maybe a bit bigger. Can't believe the size of these things.

Of course this means that I'll have to try even more next year.

No, I never thought of it really because my lettuce and spinach are doing great, again, this year. I'll try some later and maybe sneak some in a salad but won't tell the boss!!(wife)

Bill, I really got interested in longer radishes this winter while looking through Baker Creek's catalog. They have alot of different colors. They have lots to choose from BUT didn't order because it was too close to planting time.
I know they are from Burpee. Lable says Bupee's Signature Series. Almost sure I got them at Lowe's. Just happened to be walking by a huge rack and it caught my eye. Happy I got them. If you like sitting down outside for a minute to chomp on a radish, these are great. They DO take a while to eat. Compared to round ones that were all used to. I bring the salt shaker outside by the hose and disappear for a few minutes.

This one got away from me. It was hiding in the lettuce.

gssgarden,

are those hot radishes? i've grown a spring radish (Shunkyo Semi Long http://www.johnnyseeds.com/p-7311-sh...semi-long.aspx) and several different winter radishes that get that big. they are quite spicy, wonderful flavor and they can get pretty big. some of the fall ones get to 10" long!

tg, yep, just like a nice peppery radish! The larger they get, the more thicker the skin gets which isn't a problem at all, and they also get a little 'airy' inside or less solid if that makes sense. I love 'em because they are easier to cut up for salads ect. They just take longer than the standard radish but you get 5x's as much!

livin, funny, I noticed it as I uploaded the pic! My little farmer is getting bigger!

I'm definitely going to plant these from now on, because my pet rabbits LOVE radish tops.
