Bijskaya Roza
Wow what a surprise! Thank you Andrey.
This baby was quickist on the draw of over 200 varieties this year. This plant produced the first three large fruit (10, 12 and 14 oz.) of the season (63 days from transplant) all down low on the plant with fantastic leaf cover. I didn't even know they were there! What is even more of a surprise is that this is a Pink PL. I have never, repeat never, had a PL produce the earliest large fruit. I know you all want to know how they taste well I havn't tasted them yet. The've been sitting on my counter for over a week plant eating them this weekend. Malakhitovaya Shkatulka is just about ready to pick with three 1# beauties. Another amazing speedster at 69 days. Last year they were 79 days. The only difference from last year is the weather. Last year wet this year dry. I noticed that my plants this year are the healthest ever with the heaviest leaf cover. The only new thing I did this year that I have never done before is add a hand full of ironite in the planting hole along with my other secret ingredients. Well I better get to work so I can support my hobbie. If you like hearing about what's going on in DeerPark's Garden let me know otherwise I won't bother. Later, Michael |

I have been researching cameras and reading about them here at TV. I have the wife's permission to purchase a good one but she won't help with the decision, that way she can complain when I make a mistake. Sound familiar?
I'm more confused now then when I began. I will try and get one this weekend and begin shooting the garden, or I could let feldon come by (he's been asking to for a year or two or three) and he could take pictures for me! Nah.... I can't let feldon come then Worth1 will be dropping by on his way to Angelton and before you know it Retiree will be down from Canada on vacation? yah right! I don't even let my Pastor in the garden anymore since I came home one evening and found a group of ladies from the church filling bushel baskets and when I asked what was going on they replied," Pastor mentioned you invited him to come get some, so here we are!" I now just take a hundred or so plants to Church around March first, you know, teach a man to fish! Ya'll just have to wait for the book to come out. Since I don't have a man cave to escape to I have a garden that say's Keep Out or suffer the same fate as a squirrel! Michael Last edited by Deer Park; May 7, 2008 at 06:21 PM. |

Michael, Andrey,
I thought that Bijskaya Roza should be regular leaf, no?

Yes, Tania, that (Biyskaya Roza with PL) was surprise for me as well. My 2 seedlings from this year have RL and all BR plants I ever had had RL... New mutations in Texas?!
I like both Biyskaya Roza and Malakhitovaya Shkatulka very much as well. Both are quite early, have rather large fruits and originally from Siberia. We need to see photoes, Michael!

Michael,
can't say anything about this situation, but I have the same interesting results with different leaf shapes for particular varieties almost every year. Shchelkovskiy Ranniy (PL vs original RL in 2006), Rozovyi Gigant (RL vs. original PL this year) etc. Cross polination or something I don't know... Sorry

I have 4 very healthy regular leafed Biyskaya Roza plants growing in my garden this year. Will save seeds and share around. My source was Tamara Yaschenko from Biysk, Altai (Siberia), and the seeds are pure

Yes, of course, the right Biyskaya Roza is RL indeed (as I grew 3 BR seedlings in 2006)...
So I'm gonna send you more BR fresh seeds this fall, Michael!

Patty,
I've got both PL and RL versions from original seed pack. PL was more prolific, RL was more compact... From my Russian friends I got known PL is the original foliage type for this variety... Unfortunately usually there is no info about leaf type on most Russian seed pack...
