Black Zebra No seeds ???
Hello folks,
I picked my first black zebra today. I took it inside to cut it open to save the seeds. I was surprised to find NO seeds. the space where the seeds would be was filled with green gel, but not a seed anywhere. the fruit was normal otherwise. Has anyone else experienced this? I've heard that some varieties have very few seeds in the first fruit, but my red and green zebras have always had many seeds per fruit(early or not) and this black zebra had zero(I dissected it carefully). If the rest of the fruit are the same, I may take cuttings and try to keep it going. I dont know where i got the seeds. I need to keep better records of my trades. I only had @ 8 seeds to start with, so I may have gotten them from the tomatomania seedbank. If anyone reading this happened to have sent me the seed, pls let me know. From the 8 seedlings I started, one was pl and I did not grow that one(I may have stuck it in the field with the corn). I planted 6 of them and one of the 6 is producing a black cherry. I assume the black cherry is a stray seed or mislabled seedling of black cherry because it looks exactly the same as black cherry and from what i remember from last year, tastes the same as black cherry. - would a crossed black zebra produce a black cherry in the f2? thanks, Jake |
