Can peppers ripen from pulled plants?

Hi all!

We had our first frost yesterday, and the evening before I pulled all the pepper plants (hot and sweet) and hung them up in the basement. I read somewhere that the peppers will ripen from pulled plants that you hang up in your basement or garage. Has anyone tried this? Did it really work? If it does, it is a great way of extending the season.

I also pulled a rare, dwarf tomato plant so I can get all the seeds that I can possibly get from it.

I have pulled Jimmy Nardello and Jalapeno peppers off the plant stuck them on paper plates and they turned red within 3 days. So I guess it works.

Sometimes they ripen and sometimes they dry...If you are going to freeze or use them besides dryed, check them every day...
You can also pull the plants and stick them in a 5 gallon bucket of water...

Thats a good idea Jeanne sticking the pulled plant into water, i`m going to keep that in mind for later.
At the end of last season i picked all the peppers i had and spread them out over my pottingup table in my tunnelhouse,they riped up slowly over the next two months because they were in a sunny,warm and humid environment.
Not as good as fresh but at time of year better than nothing

You were right, Jeannie, some really did start to dry out! Those who are large and green seem to keep firm, but the smaller ones started to dry out. So, I will have to check them every day. It is a good idea to put them in water! I will have to remember that for the future!
