Giant Turnip?
Okay... my uncle brought this over for me today. Apparently it's a giant turnip.... or do they normally get this big? I have never even tasted a turnip before.... and I have no clue how to cook it. What do they taste like?

Hi, Amber.
That's a biggy all right. Ask your uncle if they all grew that big. It may be that it grew longer than it was supposed to. If that is the case, it may be a bit woody. Here are recipes: http://allrecipes.com/Recipes/Everyd...rnip/Main.aspx

Hi Amber I worked for a dairy farmer last winter moving electric fences within paddocks planted in a turnip and oat mix, what i saw(and tripped over) is that would have been an average size for a turnip.
They only become woody once past winter and then start to bolt. As kids we used to the jump the fences, grab some turnips and head down to the river for a munch.Looking back i don`t know how we eat them, or why? a case of the "stolen fruit tastes sweeter" i think. Richard |
