I do end up making sauce and soup from some, but most are preserved in jars. Either plain, or as relish etc. And of course many are eaten fresh. And there are always way too many. Dont know why I do it. Every autumn Im convinced I will grow less next season to ease the burden a little, but instead I just grow even more. Hmmm.

I have been sharing the bounty. Mailed a 9kg box to my Dad today, and sent a bag home with my friend from Napier who stayed last night.

Neva, are you able to grow anything in Texas at this time of year?

i don't have anything right now. you can grow onions,collards and other greens depending on what part of texas you live in. you know we brag about being a big state and it is so true,we have coast that experience mild weather then you have the panhandle where it is cold and breezy. i live in east texas,we get a little of both. there are others in texas that are more qualified to answer this question. worth in austin and michael in deer park are a lot more experienced than i am. maybe they will jump in here and help us out.

They are supposed to be pink ping pong. Third attempt at growing this one in as many years. They are large enough, and pink, but not right at all.
Madly prolific, but thus far one-dimensional acid flavour. At least I feel better about that, since the mice and rats have been into them.

The season for some of us has been rudely interrupted by the dreadful fires in Victoria. I believe all of the Victorian T'villians are okay, unlike 100 plus of their fellows who lost their lives in the worst summer fires most of us can remember. Hundreds more have lost everything they own. It will be a long road back for many.

Probably lost both houses in Marysville Ray (one for sure)

More importantly 15 locals and maybe 8 from nearby. Still more bodies to come I expect.

Very distressing to say the least.

I'm glad you and Mrs Lomatia weren't there! I suppose you'd have known the majority, if not all, of the 15 locals who died. I think everyone was stunned by the swiftness and ferocity of the fires. What a very sad time!

Its terribly devastating what has happened. My heart goes out to all who are affected.
