In browsing around yesterday, I came across anti-varmint advicethat suggested straight vinegar on rags staked in with the plants.Apparently, the smell of it, even dried, is abhorent to squirrels, racoons, cats, dogs, deer. The article said to resoak the rags once a weekT

That's one thing I haven't tried yet, but I'm going to, immediately!

Russ, I was going to tell you, I put out my seedlings under the tree, I have not lost any of them due to weather yet, just when I put them under the table and forgot about them and the rabbits ate them. I have blossoms on the ones I seeded out on July 1. I have about 12 of those plants left from then, I am going to try to get them in the ground this week or next, they are about 5 inches tall.
I am hoping it cools down in the evening again soon so I can go do some gardening stuff. I have to get a fence around my beds to keep the "kritters" (dogs included) out.
I hope all is going well for everyone else.
It is still HOT HOT HOT here.

Well, started with 16 seedlings for fall and I'm down to 7 1/2. The 1/2 is the last Lemon Boy that surely will be dead by tomorrow, so call it 7. One of the two Heidi's looks ill. It's not blight or disease, just death by cooking. I have two good size Stupice cuttings inside, a Ramapo cutting and today I took four large cuttings from the Brandy Boy plant that is alive and kicking, but not producing yet. Might take a few more tomorrow. These probably will be my only hope for any fall tomatoes if I can ever get them out. A week in the high 90's here would be a cold snap--and a very welcome one!! Good luck on building the fence, Sammie. I don't know how you'll do it when it's still 100 degrees at 9:00 PM. It's even hotter on your side of Marana.

Well at least it is raining right now, we have not gotten more than a 1/4 inch of rain since April. It is really storming. I had to put netting over my seedlings, it looks like the birds are pecking off the tops of the plants, not eating them mind you, just pecking off the tops and leaving them leafless, with the leaves laying right next to the poor little plant, so I covered them with some tulle I had from the other garden.
Good luck, and Russ if I have plants left over I will get some to you.
