Weather not cooperating

You can't rush Mother Nature. Every year I've tried to get a head start and plant early from containers, then 2-3 weeks later plant regular seedlings from the store, within no time they are the same. I think it does more to satisfy our impatience than it does with getting much of a head start. Sometimes you can if you plant out seedlings that are large with small fruit, but other than that I have found no advantage in planting early. Usually it ends up in a disaster if I don't wait till mid April and get a good 10 day forecast.

The weather here in DFW looks really good for the coming week. Staying in the mid - upper 60's for highs and uppers 40's - mid 50's for lows. Some are ready for plant out, others I'd like a bit bigger. So I'll probably hold off till next weekend.

accuweather has a 15 day forecast that the coldest night called for in DFW is 39, one night. However, it is in the 13 day range, when forecasts can be ridiculously wrong. I'm tempted to throw em in the ground this weekend as they are raring to go and most days will be in the 60s and 70s. Hmmm. What to do, what to do.

I was just telling DH that oooh, the weather looks great for the next 10 days and I am sooooo tempted. They could stand to get a bit more size on them though...."What to do,what to do"

Not sure why but I have two plants that just look real bad. Kind of like leaf roll but the stems are kind of rolled as well. The others look just fine so I am hoping that it is just a bit of transplant shock and they will recover. If not I do have a few back ups of different varieties. These two plants were amongst the best looking plants I put in. One is Cherokee Purple and the other is Black and Brown Boar

Well, the 15 day forecast for N. Tx has changed and the new lowest temp is 43. Still, this is about 12 days out, so variability in weather prediction is huge. I'm thinking I'll plant out Wednesday as the temp is supposed to 70 for a high 50's for a low and sunshine for several days in a row. Only problem I have is the hardening off process is going to be tough with rain and clouds in the mean time. So, I may have wait till next weekend.

Hope your leaf roll is improving Duajones. I've got B&BB for the first time this year (thanks Suze) and can't wait to try them.

You'll love B&BB. Mine were the first to get disease last year, but I just pruned off the infected areas.

I'm gonna hold my breath and put plants out today. They're just so darn big they won't wait anymore.

The weather has been perfect here for a couple of days though the nights have still been in the 30's. None of my tomatoes are large enough and most have yet to be potted up.
Besides my trusty tree still refuses to open its leaf buds but a few are starting to crack like it could be any day now.
I don't like to plant tomatoes or peppers before string beans. If it gets cold enough to damage string beans it also means the early blight will be a problem for me.
I did over winter some bell peppers on my back porch which has a plastic cover on right now. I just cut off all the limbs and the top so that I had about an 18 inch stick and then just pulled it up breaking most of the roots off. I then stuck them in gallon pots and watered them occasionally and danged if some of them aren't sending out new growth.
Of course some of them are just brown sticks; but if any can survive that harsh treatment I think I may be trying to overwinter many more this coming year.

It is raining here AGAIN, come on Mother Nature, there is only so much rain this desert rat can take. This is the reason I DON'T live in the Pacific North West!!!.
AND I still have not been able to plant out-I don't know how I am going to get any tomatoes before it gets too hot!

Black and Brown Boar??? Dang, I KNOW I started some of those but I'll be bamboozled but I have zero clue what happened to them! And I planted out everything on Sunday! Did I mislabel something??? Oh well...

Well Mojo, if you did plant BBB you will know it once there are fruit present. It is pretty easy to identify. I had a volunteer BBB this past fall

OK this weather is just crappy!
Rainy and Cold is not what my March is suppose to be like. It is suppose to be 75 and sunny.
Blagh, I am REALLY sick of this weather. AND still no plant out yet.

Forecast for today was 74 but it was right at 80. I am afraid that the heat is going to kick in at the flip of a switch. My plants really seemed to like the sun and a little heat today. Most are looking pretty good right now. Buds forming on most so it wont be long until some fruitset happens. Looks like it will be a couple of weeks later than last year at least

D'OH!!! I know what happened: I think I recorded all the B/B Boars as Bloody Butchers! No wonder I had so many when I couldn't remember starting them all like that. Now I wonder if I'll be able to spot the difference....
