New Fruit

I have small plants of Jds Special. Berkerly tie, and Carbon, my Carbon is less then 30inch high with 10 fruits. This plant is almost on the ground, what should i do with this plants.

Beautiful photos, as always, FILMNET- glad you have so many fruits on your cute little plants. Butternuts are my favorite winter squash. I grow a shorter-vined variety now so that I can trellis them. The squash bug population is about to skyrocket, so despite the heat, I spent a lot of time in that section of the garden today...after harvesting onions and potatoes!

I started the squash plants inside, should not have done this because this shot is the first fruit i got from 4 plants. Huge plants.

Yeah, the Walthams are huge- I love the fruits but they're just too big for my space. Burpee Butterbush is open-pollinated and has vines less than 6' long. The fruits vary in size but most are smaller than Walthams, which is fine for us, and the DTM is much less as well, which also is good for us because my squash plants take a real beating from squash bugs and cuke beetles that I miss, not to mention foliage diseases. The earlier the better for us because it increases the likelihood of our getting completely ripened squash before frost or plant demise. I direct planted seed on May 16th and have at least 15 large fruits in a footprint of about 4'x8'.
