Mantis, I had a big tommie sale in Marysville last year and was surprised at the interest. Provided a lot of info regarding type of tomato etc on some laminates. What do you sell yours for? I put them in plastic cups with a sticky label - name and description and asked $1 each. Is that too cheap?

Too Cheap
Sound too cheap to me. Maybe $2.50 a pop?

Grub, will people pay that for heirlooms? Wonder what Mantis sells his for? Mine are in 200mL plastic drink cups so the plants are only about 8-10 cm tall.

Name Your Price
I guess I'm not the Average Joe, but I would happily pay that. Maybe a little printed history card or some label that looked kind of professional would help. Maybe too much trouble. I dunno.
Guess Mantis will have a better idea. They just seem worth more than a lousy buck to me. Which reminds me, I found $2 this morning on the way to work and got a free paper and apple. My lucky day. So Mantis what's the going rate? But if I were buying 70 different varieties from you I would want a bulk-order price |

Sorry folks. Don't know why I haven't been getting emails regarding this thread.
I have been selling them for $1 only because another guy advertised them for that price at the same market. Mine are only in small tubes and not very big, but I am going to pot them on into supertubes and grow them bigger for the next market in 3 weeks. I will ask $2.50 for them then. I printed out some pics and descriptions of the varieties and laminated them for display. |

Mantis, how did you label them?
Good to hear your seedlings are popular. |

I went to Bunnings today and they're selling Tommy Toe, Black Russian and a few more not so exciting ones for $2.59!
I think $1 is too cheap. I say minimum $2 |

Lomatia, the punters are witless. It was a struggle to sell them for a buck. With two others selling them as well. I sent my daughters out to check out the competition and I think mine were the best, but training the Grosse Lissie growers is hard. I was even asked for Patio Prize, and Burkes (spew)backyard. God, or whoever is up there, give me strength.
Two people actually read my printed blurbs and bought one of each variety, (both got two BiG Beefs LOL). When I stabalise a variety of my own, its going to have Big in the name and Beef and whatever else suits. |

How about...
Mantis' Magnum Beef with, for today only, a free bunch of fives.
Maybe some fruits or diced bits would help? |

Mantis, last year everyone wanted cherries!!! Totora is going to try to flog caps and chillis - that will be a bit harder than tommies I reckon.

LOL.
Big Red Beefy Boy, got everything they are after I sold a lot of Tommy Toes and Snow Whites. Didn't even think of Peppers but I can imagine that they wouldn't sell very well. I might not even try another market if they bring in household water only restrictions which they are talking about. Knocking off now. Going to go price a couple of new tanks. |
