Default seed treatment

Just wondering if anyone has tried the bleach and tsp technique of soaking seeds for quicker germination. I dont want to kill my seed but hoping for faster sprouting. Thanks!

I just take the seed out of a ripe pepper and spread them on a paper plate and let them dry well before storing them and I have never had a problem with them sprouting. Pepper seed will usually be a good bit slower germinating than tomato seed. I don't think any treatment will make a difference in their germination and may even lessen it.

I immerse the seeds in plain water for 24 hours before planting.. my peppers then take only 3 to 7 days to sprout.

Correct me if I am wrong but I have read that the bleach/TSP and hot water technique is used for removal of seed born transfer of pathogens.I know from experience that soaking "softer"seeds sometimes incurs seed rot.The harder shelled seeds do benefit from soaking.I have propagated tea, coffee seeds, black pepper in water and even sanded them to help in germination.

For the past few years, I've soaked in bleach and gotten improved results with peppers.

This year, I also sprayed hydrogen peroxide diluted in water to moisten the paper towels, for germinating, and then soil, for sprouting.

Hoping this prevents mold.

Last year, I had some mold destroy tomato seeds in the paper towel/plastic baggie - ugh - in my arid climate. So odd to me, but tried to prevent it this year by bleaching some tomato seeds as well.

Yes, it is supposed to reduce any pathogens that might be on the seed and supposedly speed germination time.

I went to the hardware store to check for TSP. The label says not to mix with bleach! Glad I read the instructions which I infrequently do!
