Exactly what I was thinking. Creister, so sorry you lost some. Everything you did would have most likely saved them all if they were in the ground. I use grow bags for all the hot peppers, dwarf tomatoes, and a few other tomatoes I want to try but don't have room for in the beds. I learned the hard way to never put these out until the first week of June as we can get hit with a cold snap anytime during May. All the in ground plants go out in mid-May as I know they will be safe with some row cover if and when the temps dip.

Yes, live and learn, I didn't even think about the ground temp, and that probably played a larger role in what happened, as far as it did not have a high amount of thermo energy absorbed due to longer winter and clouds. Like I said, below 40, they come inside if possible. I think a few will sprout new growth, as the stems still are upright, green and healthy looking.

I had no idea they weren't in the ground.

Yeah me too Worth.
Always take them inside whenever possible when low temps threaten.
That would have been my advice if I had known they were not planted in ground.

Still waiting for first signs of spring here. It was twenty below zero over the last couple of nights. There may be hope, though. It's above freezing right now.
