Make sense to me. He says he use low fat or skim milk so there is no smell or flies or rodent.
Some of the San Marzano I have in the yard are seeds from him. Im thinking I'll try this on one or two and see what happens. Last edited by OzoneNY; April 24, 2015 at 10:57 PM. |

Milk mixed with water (30M/70W) is also a prevention spray for powdery mildew on squash, cukes..etc. I have used it in the past. Gardeneer |

Carolyn's Article
Hi Carolyn- I did read your references and it makes great sense. I find it all to be very interesting and appreciate you sharing it with us. I haven't had much experience with it, as I haven't had to deal with it (luckily). But this year it does appear to just be on the first set of mater on a couple of the plants. I'm hoping this
is it... I will pass along this information you shared and think its right on. So on those same notes, what are your thoughts on eggshells and milk in the holes/on the plants? Hog wash? Thanks! Kelly Quote:

My way of dealing with BER problem is to AVOID all BER prone varieties.
But if you are an Italian American and insist on growing ROMA and San Marzano that is another thing. Gardeneer |

My Better Boys seem more susceptible, I wonder if anyone else has noticed this. I guess if the plant makes lots and lots of fruit like Better Boy does, it's going to struggle getting the CA to all of those fruits. I lost tons last years, and this year the first Better Boy is already gone due to BER.

Gardeneer- None of the varieties that are prone are one's that I am growing. Just the one Black Mauri or Large Barred Boar? Still trying to figure out what it is....
Update- It's definitely Black Mauri. I have many clusters of 4-8 beautiful plums. So my other plant BETTER be Large Barred Boar. Lol!!

Lol Gardeneer!! BER strikes again! Today I picked two Neeves Azorean Red and 3 more Dragons Eye. It's starting to get pretty frustrating... I hate to pick off tomatoes. So the plum shaped fruits thought isn't holding so true here (seems to be many types of fruit) and now the early fruit is out of the way, its coming on new fruit. Still hoping for a good turnout. We are supposedly hitting 100 on Thurs...

Zio Nino's milk in the soil idea is rubbish?
He is a super sweet man with a heart of gold but he does adhere to some old world Italian superstitions. BUT, he also makes an incredible homemade red wine . Unfortunately I could not bring any back with me. |
