Hiya! Yes ricman, myself and Gerardo are the 3 avid RGGS gardeners on Tomatoville (my apologies if there are others I don't know about.) I started my gardening adventures with global buckets and by the end of that summer was cursing myself for not having discovered RGGS at the beginning of it.

The genius of the RGGS system is the FLOAT!!! And the potting mix packed in a net cup works wonders. Net cups are cheap, 3-inch diameter x 100 for $30 maybe? and being all the same size makes construction super easy.

Thanks Luigi, I have had a look but the float system is not for me. I cannot set it up myself and don't really have anyone that can do it for me so I shall be using my Global Buckets from 5 years ago with the red cup wicking system, so may be I can be considered a member of your "Bucket Club" anyway.

Where do you get the net cups from? I did find the red drinks containers a bit tall, they seemed to stick up from the second bucket quite a bit.

Do you think you can't set it up because you aren't handy? or? I can tell you all the parts to get, you just need a water source... wish I was close, I would totally help you out. The other thing I was just telling someone is the kiddie pool growing method... no float if you don't want to:

Thanks Luigi, I can't set it up because I have very limited mobility, I can still walk although it is gradually getting worse but on good days I am sort of OK. My raised beds for veggies are 2 feet tall so I am Ok there for planting most things , if I do a little at a time, the same with the buckets, they are all made so I just have to fill them which I can do bit by bit. The buckets will then be in my greenhouse, I cope OK on te whole and I am very determined but I no longer can build anything as I cannot work with my arms stretched out for more than a few minutes and I don't bend well, but what the heck I am doing just fine.

I just saw all the different net cups on Amazon so I will check the hole in the buckets, I think it was 3 inches and then I will order them if they can get to me quick enough for this year.

Wonderful offer of help, your are very kind , already you have answered my questions which is good as I did not like the red cup thing so now I have a better choice thanks to you. I might get back to you after I measure the hole and the depth to the lower bucket which I think varies with some of them.

I really think the net cups will give you better wicking than the slits in the cups. They are pretty cheap. You could even go with a 4" one instead of the 3" for better wicking.
