Default Storage problem with nicked or sliced sweet potatoes?

Finished harvesting my sweet potatoes this morning. Haven't weighed them, but this was the best year yet. The problem is, some of them were so large that we underestimated the amount of space to leave when digging around the plants. So, we have several that we sliced or poked. Question is, should we just leave them and cure them as is or should we wash the dirt out of the cut and then cure. Or should we cut through them at the point of entry and then cure? I know those should be the first we should use up.

We hardened the skins outdoors in shade for couple weeks. Cuts heal fine with dirt on. Ours keep in our 60 degree crawl space well over a yr. We have one layer on the floor. A friend puts his in 5gal. buckets in his non freezing garage, do fine. Ours went from 1# to 4#. 1 potato = 1 potato casserole(:

Rockman:

So far, any potatoes with cuts are healing just fine. They've been curing and now I will put them down in our basement. Thanks for the info.
