How much did it weigh? I can't see well enough.

I grew Aunt Gerties Gold for the first time this year and loved it. In fact I just pulled it up. Kinda hated too because if hadn't got the "junk" there would have been a bunch more to harvest later. It was still loaded up with small fruit but they had no chance of making it.

Great tomato!

Tim

Hmm,

Anyone have a Sungold and Aunt Gertie's Gold in one garden? Might be a good cross - a very, very tasty, prolific, mid-sized, early gold???

Or is that too much to expect

Would love to grow the cross out next year if anyone can provide seeds!!

That's a beauty Tom. I've got one similar on my counter now.

PNW D, I agree with your thoughts about crossing Sun Gold and Aunt Gertie. Along those lines but in a different color, I've got one tomato growing that's (hopefully) a cross between Brandywine (Suddeth's) and Sugar Lump. I'd like to get a more productive (than b'wine) mid sized delicious red or pink that does well in cool climates. Let me know if you want seeds (F1) and if this tomato matures (it's golfball sized now) I'll send you some.

Looks great. I had to pull up my Aunt Gertie's Gold the very beginning of the season due to TSWV. Going to try again next year! How is the taste?

i really like agg.

BUT, this year it's turning out even worse than last year and last year it sucked, not in flavor, every in other way.

in 2005 i grew agg, it was a large healthy plant, no foliar disease, tons of tomatoes, large tomatoes and lots of them.

in 2006, largish plant, not sure about foliar but i think not too bad, smaller tomatoes and a lot less of them. poor compared to last year.

in 2007, tall plant, not a lot of foliage, HEAVY disease from early june so much so that the bottom 1/3 is now gone and the yellowing is 3/4 of the way up the plant, SMALL tomatoes and VERY VERY FEW of them!

wtf! sorry just po'ed!

the seeds i saved in 2005 from that wonderful plant were the same ones used in 2006 and 2007 and each year it gets worse! at this rate in 2008, the plant will be 4' tall yellow at the top by july 4th, dead by aug 1, have 2 fruits the size of a marble to a ping pong ball, but i bet they will taste good! bfd!

i need new seeds! agg is just too good to just give up on. after last year's surprise poor performance and now this year's even porrer performance i'd normally dump a problem like this faster than you could say boo.

i did pick the 1st last night but it needs another day or two to fully ripen.

Tom, as long as you got the correct leaf form and fruit form and color in those bad years I think it's more likely that it was a weather problem leading to a disease problem and not your own "bad" seeds.

But if you want some new seed just PM me with your address. They probably are 2004 seeds but are germinating just fine so I'm told.

Tom, are you growing your plants in the same area year after year? If so, that's your problem. That soil needs at least a couple years rest from planting tomatoes to get rid of the leaf problems it harbors.

I'm having the same type problem with a lot of my plants planted where they've been planted for 3 years. They were oh so beautiful early on, and I didn't spray with Ortho Disease Control as I should have as I was fighting thistle and Burmuda grass and got behind. Now they're bedraggled and pitiful looking but most are still performing, and AGG seems to be tougher than the rest.

If anyone plants in a spot more than 2 years they had better get out the ODC and spray the young plants no matter how healthy they look. You can take that to the bank.

I hear ya Tom ...
Not sure what will happen next season, but its great so far !

I'm on my 4th season in this garden and the only thing thats
consistant is "disease" in certain spots.
I've been ammending my soil every fall - but still:
the spots that have problem plants last season,
have em again this season ...

But I never plant the same variety in the
same spot 2 seasons in a row ...
