Default Enchantment is enchanting

I wanted to mention a great find this year: "Enchantment."

It's a hybrid. It looks like a paste tomato, but eats like any great "normal" tomato. The taste is extremely robust not only for a hybrid or a paste-type, but for any great o.p. as well. It's a very balanced acid-sweet flavor.

But the real news is how many fruit the plant puts out. It's a machine! It bears early, and is still bearing tremendous amounts of great-tasting fruits in its old age. And each one is PERFECT.

The plant, by the way, is as strong and healthy as a tomato plant can get.

TGS used to sell Enchantment, as did Renee Shepard, who was a real fan and promoter of the variety. But nowadays, the only source that I can find is John Scheepers KITCHEN GARDEN SEEDS, which has Barbara Damrosch as their spokesperson. (She's Elliot Coleman's wife. Both are garden writers/TV garden show personalities, and better than most.)

Great picture! Looks just like mine. "Enchantment" is a variety that I have grown for years. I'am always looking for good plum or paste varieties and this one has always come through for me. It has great flavor and productivity.

I knew it was becoming hard to find so I am glad you listed a source for it. I purchased my seeds from Park but that was way back in 1998 and knew they didn't carry them now.

Wow! great to hear someone else likes it too!

I meant to mention that Enchantment is an indeterminate, which I find to be somewhat unusual in a hybrid paste/saladette.

They keep well on the counter, too, yet have thin skin.

I'm glad to hear others grow them!

Gardener's Supply Company sold them a few years ago. Imported from Germany. Very small diameter. Covered in red vinyl. Nice. No longer available, at least from GSC, I think?

Just the right size to hold up a spring Wall o' Water........

I grew Enchantment in 1999 in my garden in Michigan. Have to say I was disappointed with both flavor and production. I only grew it the one year, so maybe it would have done better for me if I'd grown it again.

I used to grow Enchantment, seeds also from Park. I used it for salads and salsa. I think I grew it three season in a row.

And I also have those cages! I now use them for eggplant. That's funny. My SIL just asked me about those cages this week and I told her they don't sell them anymore. The only place I ever saw them was Gardener's Supply Co. I had seven in the beginning and then one got smooshed somehow.
