Rare Tomatoes - Page 3

Okay, here's a challenge. I have been trying to get some seed for "fruity orange" cherry tomato, bred by Tim Peters in the 90's. Unfortunately, Tim no longer shows it in his catalog, and all my old SSE yearbooks are in Alaska (whilst I am in California). Is anyone still growing it? The problem with the "fruity" series is that the cherry tomatoes tended to split, but the flavors were very sweet and unusually "fruity" tasting. If nobody here has a lead on seeds for Fruity Orange, I probably should drop Tim a note now that most of the push of the season has lifted.

There are other varieties I'd love to find again as well.

Fruity Orange and Fruity Yellow are both still listed in the 2006 SSE Yearbook.

Marianne Jones lists both in the Yearbook but I don't know if she lists either one at her website, which is mariseeds.com, so you might take a look.

Hi everyone
I have learned so much from this site.

I have a question to ask ?
I was at a nursery and saw a tomato Called DollY Parton, ? do nurserys just take a tomato and name it for whatever reason? or is this a true type tomato, the little tag was hand written with the name.
I got two just becuz my DH and i like DOlly Parton and got a kick out of it,

"Dolly Parton" tomato???? BET someone simply re-named the standard oxheart variety known as "Teton de Venus".

yes that is what i thought , but i like ol dolly anyway, is that a common practice or is it looked down on? namiong a common tomato and claiming a name on it ?thanks for the info

Hmmm I've heard that Dolly's favorite mater is Momotaro. I wonder if the nursery took that as a que to rename it?

Yugoslavian Red Head
Nigerian Black From Tula (1927 Brandywine cross)
Canadian Maple Thumb
Gertrude's Wine Cellar
Carolyn's Bunch Baby
Craig's North Carolina Indigo
JJ's Joisey Blue Flame
Fusion's Alabama Reb
Suze's Texas Twister
New York Peach (Georgia cross)
Terry Light's MammasGrandas (a large fleshy variety, very succulent)
and.....the best of all...
MarkFeron's Snowbank Blush

But that's just me.

These are about as rare as it gets.
