Default Basic n00b Info:

I would like to get into tomatoes this Spring (Three weeks from now)and will try Heirloom toms for the first time.

Would you please recommend a good place to purchase seed on the 'net? There are loads in the sticky above, but I'd like recommendations..

Thanks!

Hello, havent seen you around yet, welcome!

I think the biggest question is who can and will ship into South Africa- what are your plant customs like? Some countries dont allow live plant material without a phytosanitary certificate...? (now ill just sit back and hope someone with more experience can answer!)

Good luck!

For commercial sellers, Tomato Growers Supply Co. is a great source for both heirlooms and hybrids. Victory Seeds also has some very unique heirloom varieties worth growing. Baker Creek Seeds is another reputable source, as are Seed Savers Exchange, Territorial Seed and Sandhill Preservation.

There are other good sources listed, too. I am only speaking from my personal experience with each of the above companies.

Huntsman,

What kind of quantities are we talking? For personal or commercial use? If the former many of us can help get you started. PM if you would like something snail mailed.

Hey, thanks all!

I really have no idea what the rules are regarding importation of seeds and the like. Most often I swap chilli pepper seeds using normal mail and there is no mention of seeds so both outgoing and incoming mail is fairly smooth.

It's purely personal at this stage, as I am about to enter my first-ever Spring as a grower of veg!

Appreciate the kindness! (and LOVE the emoticons!)
