Topsy Turvey and beefsteak tomatoes

I gave 2 new Topsy Turvey tomato planters to a friend for free due to what I read about them good and bad from this site

I also have a couple of beefsteak variety's that I have grown from seeds. One is Legend and the other is Better Boy. I am gonna give him one of each. Do larger beefsteak tomatoes grow well in a Topsy Turvey or should I just tell him to put these 2 variety's in the ground instead?

Put the beefsteaks in the ground for sure. I have a Topsy Turvy planter now and its my first experience with the planter. The heat here is causing me to need to water 3 times a day and that can be hard to do if you work. I have a cherry variety Sweet 100 growing in it and it is doing ok although the fruit isnt as good as one that is grown in the ground. I wouldnt attempt anything other than a cherry or something similiar in a Topsy Turvy from what I have learned in my short experience

Not using this year but I agree with Duane, grow cherry or other small fruit type tomatoes. I've used them the last two years with medium types like Eva Purple Ball and the stems split from the weight of the tomatoes. They work, just keep well watered and plant small fruit varieties, and make sure you fertilize often.
