Thanks Tom. I wish you luck on your move. 2 weeks and I move. I have a dozen Tomato plants in Pots and 5 gallon buckets. Next year I will do the community garden, new raised bed thing.

Bryan it is going just great we have a whole bunch of new guys in our department and as usual I am now one of the old timers there.

Right now I am trying to start a new trend of recognizing people for the good that they do instead of the ridicule and punishment that is or was the way things are done.

I'm working my way from the top down to do this but it is hard to teach old dogs new tricks.

These guys live in a time warp.

I will prevail though.

I hope you do well with your new place, it is often that I think about the time you sprouted that black cherry tomato and hauled it home on the plane.

I lived and gardened in Gallup, NM for 3-years. I started on virgin ground with typical flora, Junipers, sage, etc. I cleared it so that helped break-up the surface. Since it was mostly sand, I mulched heavily with the cheapest hay I could find, usually something called cow hay which went for about $5 a sq. bale.
Each year I tilled the hay into the sand, and each spring the soil looked better. I was amazed that the hay broke-down so fast in the dry soil. I guess there were a lot of little critters eating it. By the third spring, I actually had what most would call dirt, very pliable, rich and dark. I know the main draw-back to this is the high cost of hay in NM but since you are a bit closer to Colorado, maybe you can get a bargain.

Gallup, eh? We visited my wife's aunt there a few years ago. She was the only person in her neighborhood with an actual lawn. It looked somewhat out of place, given the fact that everyone else had sort of a rock garden thing going on.
