Default First Golden Tomato

This is my first Golden Jubilee. At least, I think that's what it is. In any case, it's bright lemon yellow-orange; very pretty to look at on the vine in a clump with its brothers and sisters.

It was picked two days ago, and is still pretty firm.

Very nice looking tomato. What is that heart shaped platform you have it set upon?

So did you eat it yet? How did it taste?

The platform is actually a little foam-like box that I bought a few months ago at JoAnn's. Under normal circumstances it holds our grocery receipts.

I've eaten three of the Golden Jubilees. They're very firm; taste is good, but not fabulous. On the other hand, I had the first really good Cherokee Purple this morning -- misshapen, veiny and lumpy; red the color of... well, nothing appetizing -- and it was to die for. Just the right combination of tender-yet-firm and gooey, with a complex, zingy flavor.

These Golden Jubilees are very prolific, and quite lovely in their clusters in various shades of ripeness from lemon yellow to gold. Everyone who sees them at the garden is impressed. They'll make great gifts.
