I have so many green tomatoes on my fall planting of tomatoes but this is the second ripe non-cherry tomato. I wish I knew the variety but I have a couple that were mixed up at planting and this is one. I looks yummy to me, and I will find out at lunchtime tomorrow!

It looks amazing and I've been "out" for a while now.

How many darks do you have planted that you can't narrow it down a bit? It's a big one!

By my analysis it could be: Carbon, Indian Stripe, Black from Tula, Paul Robeson, Cherokee Purple, or Black Brandywine.

I'll never know for sure which variety, but I am about to find out how it tastes!

Why don't you peel off a bit of the epidermis and see what color it is. If it's clear then it could be Indian Stripe or Cheokee Purple, but if yellow it could be Carbom or paul Robeson or Black Brandywine, and I think, but am not sure that I classify Black from Tula as a pink/black which would mean its epidermis could be clear as well.

It's always good to do controls at the same time, one a known pink and one a known red b'c pinks have a clear epidermis while reds have a yellow one.

That being said, there is really no way to confidently ID what you show so if it were me I'd enjoy the fruits but not share seeds with anyone since it simply cannot be IDed once it has escaped it's label and it's good to note that there are now several hundreds of so called black varieties that are known.

It was so yummy. It did have a clear ep. so maybe it was Indian Stripe, though I thought that was a smaller tomato than this usually.
