Default First tomato blushing

This evening I noticed first two tomatoes started to blush - they are Matina and Al-Kuffa. Way ahead of any cherries! It is interesting that everything was still green in the morning, so things are happening fast

Wow, that's great, Tania! The only ones I have with fruit are ones I bought from greenhouses. Jet Star and SunSugar have babies, but not ripe yet. I got them for my mom, anyway, and maybe she'll share!

Are you getting these thunderstorms? The forecast says you probably will. I've been up since around 4 this morning, because just as I think the storm has past, it starts up again. I'm a nervous wreck. I haven't been out to the garden to seen the damage, because I'm terrified of being struck again. I don't remember storms continuing for 10 hours before. Weird weather, indeed!

We had some hail mixed in with the very heavy rain, which didn't last long each time. (4, now) I just planted up my late varieties that are going in the hoop house next week. I hope nothing got broken.

We're having a sunbreak, but I can still hear the thunder.

Jane, wow, I hope you've got no damage in your garden! Hail in July - that's something indeed...

Thunderstorms were forecasted for today here, but they have not happened, at least not yet. But something is going on, as sun disappears periodically, and there are some wind gusts... I hope we stay dry. My container tomatoes just started to recover from the flooding they got in June and 1st week of July. They do not need any more water, not yet!

Noticed 2 Peacevine cherries blushing today too

Tania, I'm so jealous! What I wouldn't give to see that! Summer is really coming. I see that you're supposed to have temps in the high 30's. That should really help things along for you.

I'm completely miserable. Scared silly. Here's my weather:

Nowcast as of 4:02 PM PDT on July 13, 2012
Scattered thunderstorms will continue to develop and move across much of northwest Washington through 7 PM. The most likely areas to see further development will include the north coast...north Olympic Peninsula...and locations from the Everett and Admiralty Inlet areas on north. Thunderstorms will contain dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning...intense bursts of rainfall...and small hail. If you hear Thunder...Head indoors.

No way I'm going out. It hasn't stopped thundering all day! I've never experienced this in my life. Storms usually come, and go. Loudly! This has been just loud enough to scare the wits out of me, because this is how it was the day I got hit 45 years ago. I kept counting between the flashes and the thunder, and thought I was safe. (over 20 seconds) I was wrong.
Never again! I hide out from this stuff. It's been over 12 hours now, and I did take a nap, but louder thunder and more rain woke me up. Again.

Tania, I hope you don't get hit with these storms. My beds aren't covered yet, and I worry about blight. Arrrrrrrrrgh! The precipitation didn't amount to much, though it came down so hard! I'm really glad I didn't water this last week, except to settle them in.

My neighbor is out there, with the kids on the swing set. Crazy.

Exsqueeze me - you mean hit - as in hit by lightning?

Jane, I hope you stay safe, that's a very scary forecast. I just looked at our local forecast, and they say a good chance of thunderstorm on Sunday. Looks like we are going to get two days of 26C weather (we never hit 30C here, but I should probably never say never!), but it will mostly stay at 22-23C. Our hottest summer month average high is 22C, so it is near normal.

Yes, I was hit by lightening when I was 16. I was between 3 steeples and a very large tree that were all hit, too, and it threw me in the air and made my hair stand straight out. It sure hurt when I hit the ground and realized what had happened to me!

Then I lived in Worcester, MA for five years, and we usually had a t-storm 5 out of 7 days a week in the summer. I was a wreck from that. I was visiting some friends who had the windows open during a storm, and I begged them to close them. Just as they were saying nothing could happen, a bolt went in one window and out the opposite one in their bay window. Nobody wanted to get up and close them then.

I've been in one other house that got hit, and three planes. I'm convinced it follows me around.

Scares me half to death. I could just be a raving drunk by the time this storm front ends!

Tania, I thought that it couldn't be true. I think that WeatherUnderground has some serious problems. They keep predicting that I'm to have temps 6-12º higher than my mom, who lives about 5 miles away. I don't trust them at all these days. All this weather wasn't predicted at all, and now they've invented the "Nowcast" because they were too )(*)(&*&^ to see it coming!

Well - my Lordy! I guess! Alcohol helps! I get terrified of tornado sirens. Lived in a couple places where they would go off sometimes 3 times a night. And have been thru a few actual tornadoes. So, I head to the basement when the sirens go off. Most folks, naturally, think I'm nuts. DH has some wine down there so I have a couple chairs, candles, a bottle opener and a table! Need to remember to put some cups down there in case have another siren... Otherwise, though - most storms I sleep like a baby thru! I'm so sorry you have gone thru all that! I got electricuted once by a window A/C - it ain't fun stuff and was NO WHERE near what you're talking about! MAN! I can't believe you survived that! I think you must just have a magnetic personality!

Thanks, babice, I am a wreck today.

I love that this is a once in a long, long time event. (I hope!)

I meant the storms, not your dropping by!

We had a *brief* rainstorm. Giant raindrops for a few minutes. It did
start out with hail, though. Rather a surprise at this time of year. The
plants look ok at first glance.

It is grey and chilly this morning here. I hope we are not back to a cold/rainy spell again.

I'm not sure my stuff is going to produce at all this year. Everything is knee high. I have blossoms on almost every plant but only fruit on the cherries and only one fruit is starting to blush.

KBX
German Red Strawberry
Buckeye Yellow
Box Car Willy
Black Seaman
Slankards
Galinas yellow cherry
Champagne cherry
