Default The First Blush Winner Is..............

TaaaDaaa!!! Tartar Of Mongolistan.

As I was out picking cherry tomatoes I saw what I thought was some red flashing before my eyes.

It was flashing!!

This is from Baker Creeks web site;

70-85 days We were sent this rare tomato in the late 1990's by Iraqi seed collector, Aziz Nail, who was living in France. Medium-sized fruit are very flavorful, red, and flattened in shape. These have become popular with seed savers since we introduced it about 5 years ago. We are glad to have this tasty type back. Great fresh or dried.

I can't wait to slice one up!!!!

always nice to find the first one. for me it was a mystery due to seed mix up that came up first with cher purple right behind. both were soooo much better than any store bought tomato.

Congrats, Julia! Can't wait to see your photo- I've not heard of this one before. It's shocking to come upon a tomato that seems to blush overnight, isn't it? It seems this hot weather is really turning them quickly.

Congratulations! Glad to see it happening.

Here in south central Pa. I've picked a half dozen Liz Birt, a couple Barlow Jap, a Tarasenko6, and a Cowlick's BW. All Good!

So far, all my ripe Terhune's and Delicious have had "BER" as well as an Amazon Chocolate, and had to get tossed.

My first was a Vorlon, then Earl's Faux. Then a bunch of small Glaciers and 4th of July PL. I'm still waiting on the bigger ones, but it looks like Black Sea Man has one turning and any day now, I'll have a ripe Sandul Moldovan, possibly a Break O Day also! Lost some fruits earlier to BER for sure and tossed them immediately.

Congratulations Julia! I hope it tastes exciting too!

I also grow it this year, seeds from Baker Creek, I bought them in 2006 but all these year were not successful in growing them or getting them to mature. Now I got very bushy relatively compact indet. plants with lots of fruit set. Baby fruits look like they are going to be flattened beefsteaks, so it fits the description. I cannot wait to sample them.

Ooh, an exotic winner. Congratulations! Hope it's ruby-red in no time and tastes DELICIOUS.

I had salad-sized earlies BEFORE cherries this year, for the first time ever. So far, over eight days, four ripe Stupices, with colour on three more AND now on a couple of Kimberly's. (Two mystery orange cherries somewhere in the middle.)

Can't wait for the days of tomato plentitude....

Congrats on your good news! I love this stage of the tomato season.

For me it's the Park's Whopper. He caught my eye earlier this evening. It's just a matter of time now!

Last year it was Amy's Sugar Gem but this year they are a bit slower.
