Cherokee Purple, Black from Tula (have not grown it)

I grew Black Prince this year...small salad size tomatoes...with a very unique flavor--hard to describe--but very tasty. Got raves from the folks I gave these to. The plant had wonderful production.

My favorites are Cherokee purple, black from tula, black cherry and carbon (new this year). Other intersting good ones are Japanese trifle black, Indian and black pear.

I grew Black Krim and Noir de Crimee last season. I found the BK to be good sized and fairly good tasting. The NdC was very prolific - over 150 fruit on one plant - fairly small and better tasting (to me) than the BK.

Cherokee Purple has always been our favorite and Carbon this year was very good. It out-taste-tested CP in all four of the taste tests I participated in this year. (maybe the year and maybe the tomato) Black Krim has not been very tasty here in the North for me.

Two real standouts in my garden this year.
Production was moderate; but the taste

Yes, I ditto the choice of Cherokee Purple and Black from Tula. I grew BFT for the 1st time this year and really liked the flavor.

When I gave plants away this year single most popular purple/black was carbon. Productive and unbelievable taste. A real winner.

In this order.

The two at the top are tied for first so far.

I'll pick a winner next year, side by side tasting all year. It's a tough job but someone has to do it.

Vorlon
Carbon
Black Krim
Cherokee Purple
