Kitazawa katana seeds

i just finished up reading some positive posts about Kitazawa seed company so i think i will give them a shot. i am going to order some momotaro seeds and i saw another variety called katana. there is no info anywhere on katana. has anyone grown these out before?

I googled Katana as well but it must be a new listing b'c with a quick scan I didn't find any reference to anyone yet growing this F1 hybrid which is pretty well described in the above link. If I'd taken more time perhaps I would have found a reference to someone growing it and reporting on it.

I used to buy quite a few seeds for different things from Kitazawa and another place , Evergreen Seeds, http://www.evergreenseeds.com/that specialized in Japanese and Chinese varieties and I was very pleased with both seeds and service from both companies.

Yes after finding out that Ray got his Momotaro from them I went ahead and bought myself a pack of them and the Ordoriko plus one cuke variety. Prices arent cheap but the service was good and delivery was quick!

Prices aren't cheap compared to other companies, but you get lots of seeds. I was really pleased that I have plenty of gai lan for a few years.

I think I am going to "break down" and buy momotaro from one of these companies. I generally will only grow open pollinated varieties but I think I am going to go for momotaro.
Oh well the point of having rules sometimes is to break them!

Momotaro is one hybrid I will splurge for after tasting and growing it for the first time. There are not many of them but Momotaro is one, well worth the investment. A couple others thta come to mind that are worth the money are Sun Gold and Sweet Treats!

I am lucky to live near a Japanese market called Marukai here in So CA; they have kitazawa seeds for only $2.69 each as Marukai is a members wholesale place sort of like Costco. But you can shop there without being a member as lone as you pay 10% more. Still cheaper and no shipping. They have Marukai in Northern CA now, San Jose/Cupertino I believe.

Damon and Ray, you should check them out if they are near you, call to see if they carry Kitazawa. The Marukai here even told me to talk to the produce mgr before he orders seeds each season, if I wanted him to order me anything not normally on his list. I did and he got me the seeds I wanted, no extra charge.

Thanks for the tip PeeBee. Marukai is located by Vallco Mall, about half way between Damon's house and mine.

As my son speaks Japanese, I'll have to bring him with me as I'm sure he would enjoy touring their store.
