Today's Harvest

Picked a nice Kyoto Egg eggplant, Apelsin and Tolli's and another red sweet pepper, a couple of Mennonite dwarf bell peppers my brother in law got me seed for from Chihuahua, Mexico, Heritage Big Jim chile and chard for dinner tonight. Its vegetarian night here!

James, the Heritage Big Jim was super hot, even for my wife and I that eat a lot of hot chile. Great time of the year for this kind of harvest.

Michael, I grew Apelsin/(Appelsin as mine came labelled) this summer and thought they were really nice. Do you have any history of this pepper? Patty

Patty-I got them from Andrey, one of our members. Thats all I know. It is definitely one of my sweet pepper favorites. Produces a lot of peppers for me on a small plant.

I got mine in swap and they could well have originated with Andrey too. But the spelling made me wonder which was correct... and Tania has a tomato Apelsin.. Anybody out there what does Apelsin translate to...... Appelsin or Apelsin?? I loved this pepper and will be growing it in 2013 too..

Patty-Andrey's SSE listing says that Apelsin means "An Orange" in Russian. Says he got his seed from a Russian CV.

Apelsin peppers are really nice and sweet on compact beautiful plant. A thin skin, but a really sweet fruity flavor.

"Appelsin" is probably a mistake in Russian name writing from one of Estonian seed e-shops popular among foreign buyers. In Baltic States (Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia) they really forgot how to speak and write in Russian correctly after a Soviet Union collapse in 1991 :-)
