This evening put 34 plants in the dirt. Looking back twenty years worth of journals this is my latest plant date ever. Had to wait one day longer than planned because of the 100 degree temp 5-14-2013, a record by 7 degrees on that date. so happy just had to post.

I set onions all afternoon with my grandparents. They are 80 and don't remember setting out a garden this late. Those onions are our first plants to be set out. The tomatoes are coming in a few days after the deer fence is done.

Planted out the majority of my stuff Tuesday. Actually haven't done onions yet, they're going in late.

Me too! Same reason that I did not do on Monday, what with >100 temp (new Sioux City record for date and for May!). Whole Missouri Valley must have been hot.
Added 7 in pots, took the WOW off five, and 8 in raised bed.
Fun day!

Late here too...but because of cold...in South Carolina!
Should stay warm now...rest of tomatoes go in on Saturday.

Speaking of late, I am getting ready to plant the last of the corn and green beans as soon as I am done here. I stage them, but this is the latest, by far.

Peppers and eggplant going in right after the determinate tomatoes are done, which looks like about 10 days.

Sodak: heard on the radio that Sioux City in a less than two day period went from 29 degrees to 106 degrees. Talk about a change in the weather.

Hi Paul... Welcome to "Siouxland!"
Although you can see similar stuff weatherwise in Lincoln (hometown) or Omaha (lived there for four yrs while in Med School), or Wichita (residency in Internal Medicine and where I met my wonderful wife of 29 yrs) it seems the variables are a little more extreme and variable here. Flood from precip in Montana and Idaho two yrs ago and drought last year, it is always interesting (thankfully we were spared from the gosh darned flood - by about two hundred yards). We will see what this year brings. I did put an irrigation system in my raised beds. Smartpots (14 of them) will need frequent moisturometer checks and manual watering for now. May need to add irrigation to them, too.
