Hmm.. decision time. Push the wheelbarrow 50 feet into the woods to collect leaves, or drive to the nearest city looking for peoples yard clippings?

The input is appreciated but with so many people applying fertilizer and weed killer to their lawns, I wouldn't use anything from the town's heap in my garden. My son-in-law used it one year and his tomatoes grew massive stalks and tons of foliage but hardly a viable tomato. He never used it again and he never had that problem again.

This conversation leaves me scratching my head.......with both hands.

The city's suck up all the food, money, jobs, even our children, and we are supposed to be content picking thru their discarded yard clippings? Don't take it personal Dustdevil. It was the choice of words which provided the opportunity for sarcasm.

A sad state of affairs when we can't trust leaves to not have poison on them. I have to laugh at man against nature when it seems to me that more weed killer every year has been applied to dandilions and there are more dandilions every year. Hmmmm. We just don't seem to get it.

i agree with the person that pointed out that in the fall you don't fertilize or spray "cides". as i mentioned above get ahold of a landscaper that is doing fall cleanup. i have never had any problems other than a shredded styrofoam cup. they typically shred the leaves so they can more efficiently load their trucks. pay the guy to insure he is willing to dump them in your yard. now you have mulch for weed suppression, organic matter to add to your soil in the fall, browns for the compost pile in nthe spring and summer and you don't have to shred them.
