Germinating Cucumbers
http://www.durgan.org/URL/?RGBUH 20 April 2014 Germinating Cucumbers
Six pots of cucumbers were planted to get a good start on the 2014 season. Each pot has three seeds planted and placed in the greenhouse. Outdoor planting will be at the end of May. Two types were chosen Cross Country and County Fair. Most of the crop will be made into juice.Annotated pictures depict the process. |

So interesting! How do you know after 12 hours in the CD-case that they are ready to be planted? Where do you place these CD-cases - in full sun or?

The purpose of the CD case is a simple way of simply getting the seeds rather wet. The case is convenient since it keeps the moisture for a time. The seeds in the case are placed in a warm spot around 70F or thereabouts. If left longer than about 12 hours the seeds will eventully sprout, which I find is not necessary and prefer them to sprout in the pot. In the pot around 80F germination should be around four or five days. I will post again upon germination.

Durgan, I used your method of germinating different varieties of seeds between 2 styrofoam plates instead of a zip lock bag. It worked really well, much easier to keep everything labeled. Thank you for the idea.
Your CD case idea is even better I think. Much more compact. I'm going to steal your idea. Again. Daren |

Cucumber growth to date. About a month before they can be placed outdoors. Cucumbers can withstand no frost. http://www.durgan.org/URL/?RGBUH 20 April 2014 Germinating Cucumbers Six pots of cucumbers were planted to get a good start on the 2014 season.
