Has any one used Pyrethrin as insecticide ?Where results good are bad?

Was an exterminator once upon a time... In direct contact it can be lethal and acts very well as a flushing agent. It acts as extreme irritant to get the bugs on the move. It has next to no residual value on its own so its repellency is limited. Unless extenders have been added, reapplication will be necessary frequently.

For me? I'd use it in combination with something that has some residual nature. Right now I'm using Neem oil to limited success and have just added Spinosad to the regime. If things don't improve (leaf hoppers), pyrethrins will be next followed by the afore mentioned.

We tried it for several years to try to combat cucumber beatles, the answer is in that first part of my sentence. Sorry, not trying to be a smart @ss, it just didn't work for us. Growing cukes are real hit or miss in our garden. I usually plant early and again around July 4th, hoping to harvest a few.

I use it and with great success.

I use it in combination with soap. I know that it will only be effective until it is dry and that is what I like about it. I only want to control the targeted insect and not poison other forms of life that I do not intend to. I allow the soap spray to sit on the plants for 5-10 minutes and then rinse them off. I will have to repeat this every 3 days for 3-4 treatments. This works quite well for me on aphids and spider mites.

Pyrethrin has piperonyl butoxide added as a synergist to make it more effective. PB is not toxic on its own or not very toxic. Permethrin is synthetic pryethrin and I purchased some mixed with diatomaceous earth for use on squash for squash bugs. The warnings were it is toxic to bees and cats. It seemed to work on the squash bugs the bees were ok and I don't have any cats.

thanks for help ,I just noticed that it could b used to day of harvest so i assumed it wasn't to toxic to humans again thank for help
