Purple Rain
I have never grown eggplant and havent eaten it in years, but would like to grow one or two plants just for personal consumption (no one else in the house will eat it) After reading through some of the post and looking at pictures, I thought purple rain might be a good choice. Just wondering how many fruit I might expect from the average plant.

As it turns out, my neighbor grows black beauty and gave me some seeds today. It looks to be a pretty big fruit and would need some type of support. I have tomato cages laying around that I could use. Will they work ok?

Those cheap cone shaped "tomato" cages they sell at the hardware store are perfect for eggplant.

Thanks Michele, appreciate your response! I sowed a few seeds in a couple 4 inch pots and since the temps are pretty good here now, is there any advantage to starting them indoors or would it be ok to leave them out to germinate on my covered deck?
