I have received "old" seed this time of year which didnt do well "potato no top" was the result
If gurneys stored the seed properly you should be fine.

Potatoes came in saturday by Fedex, not red pontiac but red norland. Cut today about noon and will be planted tomorrow.

They look great, not too old.
Let them "skin over" 2-3 days and you should get less rot on the cut pieces.

Your reply made me think about this too. Should I cut those little green potatoes pictured above in post #11 or just put them in-ground whole?

If its a close call plant them whole.
When its too hot or too cool rot can set in at the cut.

Went back and looked, plant them whole.
Up here we try for pieces the size of a hens egg.

That's around what size they are with some smaller. Whole it is.

OK, it is wednesday and I will plant today. Just found other things to do instead of planting. With all the rain the last couple of weeks lots of sprouting weeds. (Note for nematode I grew up in Oxford just south of Worcester.)
