NBD really is a contradiction in terms isn't it? It's not Big and it's not New either.

It was new when they named it and the tomato was big for the standards of the time.

This year is a first for me, in that I'm trying my first Dwarf's, (Sweet Scarlet Dwarf), and (Dwarf Orange Cream), and also my first year of growing tomato's in containers. These two Dwarfs will go in grow bags and we shall see how they do. Nice to see others have favorable comments on Sweet Scarlet Dwarf.

I have been growing the dwarfs since their initial release and one of the first is one of my all time favorites. That would be Summertime Gold. Sweet but still nice and zippy. I like lots of color, so I would grow the newly released Dwarf Scarlet Heart for it's great flavor and amazing productivity. For orange, I really like Coastal Pride Orange, but I grew Loxtan Lad and Loxtan Lass during their development and I they are all great. Flip a coin on those. Then for a dark one, that is hard, but since I have to narrow it down, and taking production into consideration, I would go with Dwarf Wild Fred. But then you need room for a stripe..........

There seems to be a few votes for sweet scarlet dwarf. I'll have to get that one for sure!

Thanks Nancy. I too, like to mix up the colors. I start the dwarfs from seed for my sister to grow on her patio and I always give her a mix of colors. I'll grow some myself as well. I like your comments on productivity. Thank you much!

Just so everyone is aware, there are two different varieties, one called Dwarf Sweet Scarlet and the other is Dwarf Scarlet Heart. They are both wonderful, but when talking production I think Dwarf Scarlet Heart was amazing. It is a new release this year. The fruit is clearly heart shaped.

I wish I could pick just 4 but I've already purchased 20 different varieties and I still put in a Wanted Ad for Tastywine which was one I could not nab. I keep shuffling the deck trying to decide which ones should I try this year and how many can fit in my little garden? I grew Wild Fred and Rosella Purple last summer and they were wonderful! So cute and stocky and easy to care for and the production was straight into Fall with so many green tomatoes still left on the plants that I managed to make 9 quarts of pickled green tomatoes and they came out great!
