Default germinating time

can't believe how fast the sun gold germinated! took pictures of my setup yesterday and the sun golds are up today! going to have to keep a log as to when they all start coming up, for next year, so maybe they can all come up pretty much at the same time. hope the other ones hurry up and pop. hate leggy plants.---tom

Sungold's are usually among my first to sprout, too. You should put the tray under the lights now even though the others haven't sprouted. That way none will get leggy.

That's the main reason I never germinate in trays. Each seed is an individual with its own agenda and growth pattern. Once a seed sprouts, I take it from its spot and it gets its own Dixie cup to grow in. Leggy-ness does not bother me early on. Once the plant gets the 1st true leaves it gets transplanted and buried deep into a 3 or 4" pot. If it gets a little leggy after that, I stick a barbeque skewer stick in with it and usually supports it enough until I transplant to the garden where it gets buried deeper yet again with a true support.

I have been starting the seedlings in 2 icnh peat pots in the past, that way I could move the fast growers into differant trays depending on size, this year I'm trying a speedling tray I got from tomato growers, but didn't take into account how fast the sun gold would germinate. I see a lot of the other ones are starting to emerge, so it might be fine, lol
