Red Brandywine -

I love doing this every season, cause its fun ...

I'm fairly sure I have the "right" Red Brandywine this season.
My seed source was Suze & Carolyn. I grew out seed from both
and both plants / fruits are exactly the same.

This fruit is a little bigger than a baseball - Slicer pics to come tonight.

Ok - I've shown you mine ~ lol ~ Lets see yours !

No pic of fruit here yet, but my red brandywine is doing well and has decent fruit set...considerig the conditions.

BTW: The first fruit out of "my garden", which had yet to produce is a Druzba. Also, see a Monster getting ready. Shall keep it a day or two, then eat it.

Thanks goodness for the six plant planted here at the house.

i grew burpees brandy boy and little brandy boy and oh boy wad a couple of lousers taste is not good at all and all my other tomatoes at least tast ok to great so back to regular brandywine next year

Looks awesome Tom. Now tell me what my 2nd Red Brandwyine is. I have two plants one is looking like a regular leafed Red Brandywine, the other is potato leaf but from same seed packet...these were 4 year old seeds that I had purchased from a place that I think is called "heirloom seeds"

I am just getting fruit so it will be 4, 5 or 6 more weeks til I see ripe fruit..

A good dependable mainstay.

Now tell me what my 2nd Red Brandwyine is. I have two plants one is looking like a regular leafed Red Brandywine, the other is potato leaf but from same seed packet...these were 4 year old seeds that I had purchased from a place that I think is called "heirloom seeds"

it makes a huge difference to me if you're referring to HeirloomSeeds.com or HeirloomTomatoes.net as your source.

I say that b'c Tom Hauch who owns Heirloom Seeds was the first to get RB out of the SSE Yearbook and offer it commercially, and considers it, as he writes at his site, his signature variety. Great care would have been taken with this variety and I've not heard of anyone who has gotten PL RB from that source. But I suppose there's always a first time for everything.

OTOH if it was Heirloom Tomatoes, which is Chuck Wyatt's old site, he did at one time have the wrong PL RB and I think, but can 't say for sure, that all those seeds were thrown out. And I can't say for sure since Chuck passed on in 2002 and there's been no seed production since that time although Donna, last time I knew, had purchased some seeds of various varieties. And since she does no growouts herself, I just don't know what the situation is with seed purity.

Aaaugh! Bad news here. My "Red" brandywine is "Pink". PInk regular eaf. Now what in the world do I have, I wonder? I ask him and he said it was a Brandywine cross between a pink & a red. I assume both Brandywines, but who knows. Is there an heirloom hybrid out that is brandywine, with pink fruit and regular foiliage or with one parent, being Brandywine?

I am highly disappointed, as I was looking forward to my Red Brandywine.

Did try my WV63 and it was good, anyway.
