Default Yow!

I took a piece of garlic flatbread, rubbed it with olive oil, coated it in fresh basil, piled fresh tomato over that, added a few chopped onions, then covered the top in red and orange pimento peppers. As an after thought I chopped a Grenada Seasoning pepper, a mild pepper, sprinkled cheese over the top, and popped it in the oven. Even took some pictures so I could brag a bit about my culinary masterpiece.

It came out of the oven, I sliced it into hand sized pieces, and took a nibble before I went and sat down for lunch. As I savored the basil/tomato/onion gestalt, some heat hit me. "Hmmm, I thought, "that's a bit strong for a Grenada Seasoning pepper." The heat continued to build, and I went over and looked to see if I had gotten the wrong pepper. The heat built more.

"Bowel Movement!" I exclaimed. Well, not really, I used a more abbreviated term. Anyway, it was starting to hurt! I grabbed a bit of the unused flatbread and chewed to soak up the oil. No joy, it still hurt. "Bowel Movement, bowel moment!", I moaned.

Now, I'm not a novice pepper eater. While I'm not one of those who thinks eating something so painful that the body is forced to produce its own pain killers is fun, I do like it pretty spicy. I had used one smallish to medium pepper on a foot long piece of flatbread covered in other vegetables and cheese. I was sucking air around my teeth, my eyes were watering, and my nose was running by now.

Tongue hanging out of my mouth, I finally dove for the freezer and the big anti-burn guns. I grabbed some ice cream. Whew! Finally, relief.

I do believe my nice, mild Grenada Seasoning pepper is actually a fatilii of some sorts. Here's a picture of the pre-cheesed homemade pizza. You really have to look close to see the bits of hot pepper in amongst the heatless ingredients. I'm really surprised even a fatilii would light me up like that, it was shopped into tiny pieces, but...whew!

*sigh* I was really looking forward to pizza.
