Saljut vs Black Plum
I've grown Black Plum for several years and it is actually a fav of mine. Very productive and nice typical 'pink' mild taste tho darker in color.
Last year I got many varieties as trades that I didn't know a whole lot about. Saljut was one of them. They were grown in a different part of the field from my Black Plums so I didn't realize at first that they WEREN'T the Black Plums (the tag was hard to see). In looking for info here, all I could find was that they were a 'plum' with varying colors mentioned. Saljut isn't listed in SSE or Tatiana's. My Saljut were all quite the same size and shape and color - brownish. No variations at all that I could see. They were at least a week earlier than the Black Plum, but the Black Plums were planted at least that much later than the Saljut so that may not be a true fact. I'm wondering if they are actually the same tomato with a foreign name or not. I didn't get a chance to really compare them since we had such a hard time getting ripe tomatoes last year and I don't think were had both at the same time. I will grow them both near each other this year so see if there is a varietion or not. Thanks, Carol |
