Default Growing in a hot climate

I live in the middle of Oklahoma and for the last few years we have had some pretty hot weather...

Anyone in my neck of the woods have any suggestions on how to grow tomatoes in Oklahoma!..

My best result so far is to grow in 50 gal trash cans and that way I avoid the dreaded red clay.
