Damage to Brussel Sprouts and Broccoli

This is a picture of the damage that is happening to the stems of my broccoli and brussel sprout plants. They were doing fine and then just started wilting. Looking closer, this is what I see on the stems. Anyone knowwhat this is and if there is a way I can save these plants. Some are not appearing to be affected yet. Sorry the image is SO large.
