Default neck pumpkin question

My Pennsylvania neck pumpkins are taking over the yard, the neighbhor's yard and maybe part of the alley. I noticed one has turned tan - when do you know if it ready? I tried to locate a dried tenril but couldn't find it. When all is said and done, there may be at least 15 - that's a lot of pumpkin! Piegirl
